The characters were not built well - and while it got off to a good start - it slows down a lot in parts. The author does not give a convincing rationale for the alien invasion (as has been pointed out in other reviews). From the point of view of a realistic description of what might happen if earth WAS faced with such an invasion, I think the author does a good job. The end is realistic and hard-hitting.
