This book was written by a British Muslim, female doctor, with medical training in America and presently living in New York, who undertakes a two year contract to work in Saudi Arabia. She recounts her two year journey as a physician in the National Guard Hospital located in Ridaya, giving detailed personal accounts of friendships made with her professional Saudia co-workers and glimpses of their personal lives along with their religious and cultural beliefs. Despite the oppressive restrictions placed upon women in the Kingdom, she discovers warmth, love, joy and dedication among her female acquaintances. One of her co-workers convinces her to make the pilgrimage to Mecca while she is in the Kingdom. Her account of the Muslim faith and this once in a lifetime journey is both spiritually uplifting and fascinating.
