Aspiring Broadway actress Erin Hollister is down on her luck. She didn't make it past the first cut on her most recent audition, she's fired from her "safety net" job, and her boyfriend dumps her. All on the same day. When she agrees to watch a co-worker's apartment for a while, Erin comes across a lamp with a gender-bending genie who can grant Erin 4 wishes. Erin easily uses 2 wishes to increase her singing and dancing skills to help her land a coveted Broadway role, but she stalls on the next two wishes. Does she wish for things to be given to her and know that she doesn't deserve any rewards that comes with it? Or does she work towards her goals and have the satisfaction that she earned it?
