Free Download | Fallen Angels | Larry Niven

Fallen Angels presents some interesting theories on global warming, global ice, and the results of anti-science stupidity. One of the primary distinctions between science fiction and fantasy fiction has always been the well developed science in science fiction. Instead of magic, sci-fi has to have some probable or at least possible explanation. Sci-fi allows the authors to explore the outcome of scientific choices. In Fallen Angles the Green Party and environmental wackos have taken over the earth and caused the next ice age, the greatest environmental disaster in human history. Science research is politically incorrect except for "appropriate technology" which doesn't include space travel or oil drilling or coal mining.

Free Download | Escape from Hell | Larry Niven

First off i'd like to say that I did not read "Inferno". It seems that most 1-3 star reviews on Amazon are from people who are dissapointed that it wasnt as good as Inferno. I read this as a completely random purchase after flipping through the first few pages and reading the brief descriptions of the "Dramatic Personae" who the main character comes across in his journey through Dante's many circles of hell. Every time Allen (Main character) would say that he "notices a figure walking in the distance" or something I could not wait to see which decased person from history he would meet next. From Iraqi suicide bombers to famous political figures, and the most evil people from the last couple millenium such as Hitler/Stalin, every character he meets has a story to tell and they're all interesting. These characters don't just float in and out of the storyline without purpose either... some of them Allen had met previously in "Inferno" and the rest usually serve some purpose in the story or have an effect on the rest of the story.

Free Download | Ringworld | Larry Niven

This is the first of the ring world series of books, and all of them are entertaining and fun to read as a whole set. These are stay up all night reading books good, with compelling characters, an excellent story line, and an awesome plot to go along with it that unfolds over the book and subsequent books in the series. This first book covers the discovery of the Ring World by Louis Wu, Speaker to Animals, and the puppeteer Nessus. While the puppeteer does what they always do (which is leave much of what they know out of the picture because they fear fear) the team is eventually put together with Louis, Speaker, Nessus and Teela Brown who was born lucky (more on that back story is worth reading in the other books).

Free Download | Ringworld Engineers | Larry Niven

The book moves the two main characters 20 years into the future from the original book, ring world, where Louis Wu has become an addict to an electrical stimulation system, and Speaker to Animals has prospered and earned his full kazin name. What is cool about the book is not just how both the main characters revert back to how they acted in ring world to a great extent, but how the story spends more time describing the characters, peoples and customs of the folks who live on ring world. Even the puppeteer is authentic in how he acts/reacts to the events happening in the story line. You also find out what happened to Teela Brown in this story, and not to do a spoiler, it is interesting to find out how niven ties all these elements together into a very fascinating book.
