Free Download | The Twice Born: The King's Man Trilogy | Pauline Gedge

Every time I read one of her novels I feel like I'm there! Such a fascinating story, I can't wait until the final book comes out! When Huy is sent away from his family's farm to a prestigious school for a chance at a better life as a scribe, he is soon befriended by the family of the local governor. But just as Huy starts to feel at home with his aristocratic new friends, an unexpected attack shockingly takes his life. After five days in a crypt being prepared for his own burial, Huy miraculously revives. His mysterious return to life makes him a pariah, and although he longs to lead a normal life, Huy finds himself haunted by visions of the deaths of those around him. An ingenious and suspenseful novel of ancient Egypt, The Twice Born is a treat for all fans of historical or fantasy fiction.

Free Download | Scroll of Saqqara | Pauline Gedge

Richly detailed with the exotic realities of Ancient Egypt, Scroll of Saqqara is a compelling tale of power, lust, and obsession. I have read a number of Pauline Gedge's books and find this one very interesting and chilling. It is well-researched, as usual with her, and one feels he is really right there 2500 years ago. Ramesses' son, KHaemweset, the great magician prince, is a handsome, likable protagonist the reader longs to embrace and we revel in his perfect family, exalted position, sense of duty and the love he has for his country. The horror of his downfall due to an evil he accidently ? set in motion is excrutiating to experience.

Free Download | House of Illusions | Pauline Gedge

The scenery, the buildings, the poorer sections of the city, the clothing, the feasts...everything... is so vividly described, that I am caught up in these images. This feeling of being transported there is reason enough to read Gedge's books, but combined with the drama and suspense, they are unforgettable. Ancient history comes alive and stays that way as Thu, the Egyptian peasant in Lady of the Reeds (1995) who became a pharaoh's concubine and was then banished, now triumphantly vindicates herself. Like its predecessors, this fifth in a series is set at the height of ancient Egypt's influence. Gedge excels at setting the scene and subtly evoking a sense of the period as she tells a timeless story of greed, love, and revenge.

Free Download | The Seer of Egypt | Pauline Gedge

Together, the two books in this series weigh in at a ponderous 1,000 pages; based on the conclusion to this volume, I'm betting that Gedge is preparing the third volume in what seems likely to be a trilogy. After spending a few days reading the first two books back-to-back, I can't help wishing that she had decided to focus her narrative more tightly and contain it within a single book, or two, at most. This follow-on volume often spends a lot of time re-hashing (sometimes several times) events in the first book, including the critical attack which left Huy with the ability to see into the future. Ultimately, those repetitions, combined with the long-drawn out scenes or gratuitous incidents that don't contribute to plot or character development, become highly irritating.

Free Download | House of Dreams | Pauline Gedge

Omitting nothing, this blue-eyed daughter of an Egyptian midwife and Libu mercenary takes us on a journey that travels a path from childish innocence to vile debauchery. We are with her every step of the way. We walk with the young Thu as she leads the family bovine "Precious Sweet Eyes" to the banks of the Nile. We plunge into the Nile with Thu in the dead of night and board the barge of the Seer Hui, where she offers her virginity to the gods of ambition. We witness the education and humiliation she endures to achieve external beauty and power. We sympathize with her as she is cruely manipulated by those with a terrible agenda.
